At Taabinga State School, we believe that sport plays a vital role in the balanced development of our students, promoting physical fitness, teamwork, and school spirit. We offer a range of sporting opportunities for students to participate in, both competitively and for enjoyment.

Sporting Schools Program

The Sporting Schools program is a national initiative that provides primary school children with access to free sport and other structured physical activity programs.  Our school runs this program at lunchtimes to provide activities for students.  Sports include basketball, cricket, soccer, touch and football.  Parents receive written notification of sports offered, year levels involved and day of program.

Interschool Sports

Students in Years 4 to 6 have the opportunity to represent Taabinga State School in District Interschool Sport competitions. Our teams compete in a variety of sports, fostering a sense of teamwork and school pride.

Swimming Program

In Term 1, students from Year 3 - Year 6 participate in an intensive swimming program at Kingaroy Pool. Students in Prep – Year 2 participate in an intensive swimming program at Kingaroy Pool during Term 4. This program focuses on building swimming skills and water safety awareness and culminates in an exciting swimming carnival (Years 3 -6) where students can showcase their progress.

House system

Upon enrolment, students are allocated to one of our four sporting houses. This system encourages friendly competition and camaraderie among students, with all siblings belonging to the same house. Our houses are:

  • Moomba (Green)
  • Bunya (Yellow)
  • Jacaranda (Blue)
  • Warana (Red)

Athletics Carnival

The annual interhouse Athletics Carnival is a highlight of the school year, providing students with the opportunity to demonstrate the skills they have developed during Physical Education lessons. Events include long jump, high jump, discus, shot put, sprints, and distance races such as the 200m and 800m.

Cross Country

Each year, our students participate in the school-wide Cross Country event, encouraging endurance and perseverance. This event is a wonderful opportunity for students to challenge themselves and support their house in a fun and supportive environment.

Benefits of Sports Participation

Engaging in sports provides students with numerous benefits, including:

  • Physical Fitness: Encouraging a healthy, active lifestyle.
  • Teamwork: Developing cooperation and communication skills.
  • Confidence: Building self-esteem through skill development and achievement.
  • School Spirit: Fostering a sense of belonging and pride in representing Taabinga State School.

We encourage all students to get involved in our sports programs and experience the joy and benefits of participating in physical activities.
