Learning Health and Physical Education at Taabinga State School

All Prep to Year 6 students participate in our Physical Education program. Students must wear a hat when participating in the program of activities. The program assists in the development of gross motor skills, teamwork and provides students with the opportunity to engage with a range of sporting events throughout the school year.

Our Physical Education teacher is Mrs Hurt.

Here at Taabinga State School the focus in the Early Years is developing students' fundamental movement skills; which includes running, jumping, throwing, catching, developing coordination, balance and strength. Our lower grades partake in a swimming block in Term 4 to promote water safety. Upper grades partake in a swimming block in Term 1 along and swimming carnival.

In the Upper and Lower years there is a focus on teamwork, communication and cooperation to assist our students in developing positive relationships with their peers.

In the Upper Years the HPE curriculum continues to build upon the foundation laid in the earlier years, focussing on refining skills and teaching sport specific skills so that they can engage in a wide range of sports. Students play a variety of team games and we provide a wide range of lunchtime clubs for example soccer, cricket, football, AFL and netball. They take part in inter-school sport and a variety of tournaments so that they can apply and develop their skills and display sportsmanship. Our aim is to promote a lifelong participation in physical activity.

SPORTING SCHOOLS PROGRAM

The Sporting Schools program is a national initiative that provides primary school children with access to free sport and other structured physical activity programs. Our school runs this program at lunchtimes to provide activities for students. Sports include basketball, cricket, soccer, touch and football. Parents receive written notification of sports offered, year levels involved and day of program through the newsletter.

SPORTS HOUSES

We have four sporting houses, Moomba (green), Warana (red), Bunya (yellow) and Jacaranda (blue). Children are placed in a house upon enrolment. The houses are used for carnivals such as swimming and athletics.
