Welcome from the Principal

Dear Parents,
Welcome to Taabinga State School. We are very proud of our students, staff and school community. Our co-educational school caters for children in Prep to Year 7 and presently has an effective enrolment of 580 students.
I hope that the years your child spends at Taabinga State School will be enjoyable and rewarding. We endeavour to foster a friendly, inclusive and supportive school environment where every child’s unique talents are nurtured and their individuality respected.
The aim of the school is to help children develop learning skills, which will equip them for lifelong learning. We value the special talents and interests of your children and we will do our best to ensure talents are recognised and encouraged. In the classroom and in general school organisation there is an emphasis on developing each child’s self-esteem and their sense of belonging. We want the primary school years to be enjoyable and productive in terms of students’ learning outcomes.
We encourage students to develop positive self-discipline. Children are expected to act responsibly and to consider the rights of others. A major goal is to develop each child’s acceptance of personal responsibility for their actions. We emphasise that everybody in the school community has three basic rights: to be safe, to learn (or teach) and to fair treatment. Our school Code of Behaviour encourages Caring, Co-operation, Common Sense, Courtesy and Commitment. The Responsible Thinking Process reinforces these values.
Parents are always welcome to visit or work voluntarily at our school. Staff will be willing to discuss your children’s progress at any time during the year. In the event of any concerns about school related issues, please feel free to make an appointment to discuss these with your child’s teacher, Deputy Principal or myself.
The interest that you show in the school and its activities has a positive effect on your child/children. Your willingness to be involved in all aspects of school life – for example, attending P & C meetings, working as volunteer classroom helpers, assisting on camps/excursions, tuckshop – reflects your interest and sense of pride in your child’s school. Children thrive on this sense of belonging. I encourage you to be involved as an active partner in your child/children’s education.
We look forward to an enjoyable, rewarding and successful year in 2009.
